Five Nigerian school girls have made Nigeria proud by winning the gold medal at the World Technovation Challenge in Silicon Valley, San Francisco.

These girls who attend Regina Pacies Secondary School, Onitsha have so far been receiving commendation for the feat.

The team members include Promise Nnalue, Jessica Osita, Nwabuaku Ossai, Adaeze Onuigbo, and Vivian Okoye.

EduCeleb.com gathered that competition attracts girls from all over the world to identify a problem in their communities and have them challenged to solve them through developing Andriod applications.

The team’s innovation was adjudged to be better than those of the United States, Spain, Turkey, Uzbekistan, and China.

The team’s mobile application called the ‘FD-Detector’ was rated best among others. For five months, they spent time on research and development to help tackle the challenge of fake pharmaceutical products in Nigeria. They were coached by Uchenna Onwuamaegbu-Ugwu, CEO of Edufun Technik STEM.

The girls will be attending field trips and workshops, including a networking session during their one week stay in the US.

“Congratulations! We are very proud of you,” Acting President Yemi Osinbajo tweeted when he received the news.
