The Plateau State Government has expressed readiness to retain the Four Thousand, Eight Hundred and Fifty (4,850) N-Power volunteers serving as teachers in the state on the expiration of their programme later in the year.

The Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mathew Sule confirmed this on Wednesday in Jos.

Professor Sule said that their appointments takes effect from the beginning of September.

“The conversion of their appointments to permanent status is part of Gov. Simon Lalong’s efforts to improve the standard of education and make teachers more productive,” Sule explained.

He urged the teachers to reciprocate the kind gesture through effective service delivery, urging them to see their appointment as a reward for their commitment to duty in the last two years

EduCeleb.com recalls that the Nigerian Federal Government launched the N-Power programme as part of its social investment programmes in 2016. The two year programme provides an employment opportunity for graduates in the education, health and agricultural sectors of the economy.

For the two year programme, each selected participant is paid the sum of Thirty Thousand naira (N30,000) monthly. That is apart from additional access to trainings in their respective specialities and a preloaded technological mobile device.

With the expiration of the first batch closing in, N-Power volunteers have commended the Simon Lalong administration for his gesture.

Meanwhile, a volunteer is clamouring for the retention of all N-Power volunteers nationwide. He is Ikenna Ugwumba from Owerri, Imo State.

He appealed to the President Buhari led government to consider their proposal to keep them employed.

Mr Ugwumba suggested that volunteers visited the president during the Eid break in Daura, his home town.

In a Facebook post, Ugwumba wrote thus, “Our brothers and sisters in N-Power at Katsina State should visit our president in his home town as Corp members did today. They should thank him for his many works in Nigeria especially giving us job and beg him to please permanent us as federal staff.”
