Oyo ending LAUTECH joint ownership with Osun soon

There are indications that the dissolution of joint ownership of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Ogbomoso between the Oyo and Osun State governments would happen soon.

The university was established by the old Oyo State government over thirty-three years ago and the creation of Osun State in 1991 from old Oyo State gave birth to the joint ownership.

In the past decade, the institution has been enmeshed in financial crisis due lack of commitment from the owner states.

Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Olasunkanmi Olaleye hinted on that changing soon while receiving delegations from Ladoke Akintola Foundation in his office saying that the process will be completed soon.

EduCeleb.com recalls that representatives of the two state and the National Universities Commission (NUC) met at the Senate building of the institution in Ogbomoso recently for the resolution of the situation.

LAUTECH was named after the former premier of the Western Region in the First Republic, Ladoke Akintola within the first five years of its establishment.

The commissioner maintained that the Oyo state Governor, Mr Seyi Makinde was much more interested in providing a solid educational background for indigene and residents of the state.

“The governor doesn’t joke with Ogbomoso people as well,” he added.

While commending the the leadership of Ladoke Akintola Foundation for their efforts in projecting the image of the late premier, Olasunkanmi urged them to do more in sensitizing the public about the contributions of the late Ladoke Akintola to Nigeria.

“It is unfortunate that Ladoke Akintola did not live long to defend himself, his children and supporters were also young when he died so it was difficult for them to defend all the lies against Akintola but since you have taken up the task, you have to do it well. Although people are knowing the truth now but don’t relent’ dig out more facts about him, his achievements and his style of politics spread it, let the younger generation be properly informed.

In his reaction, the Coordinator of the foundation Mr Yemi Adedokun said the entire members of the family and Ladoke Akintola Foundation appreciated the efforts of the government in education generally and LAUTECH specifically.

Adedokun said part of the effort to project Akintola’s name is organizing public lecturers in Ibadan, Ogbomoso and Lagos as well as conversion of part of his building in Ogbomoso country home into a library for public use.

“We have packed over 5000 books found in the house into a place and by the time we completed the library we will open it for public use,” he said.

Adedokun used the medium to present books and face masks to the state government on behalf of the family. He said the donations were parts of efforts to support the government in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.
