Osun establishes state examination board

Osun State Governor, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola has approved the establishment of Osun State Examination Board.

This was aimed at centralizing the examination system among public schools as well as strengthening the quality of education in the State.

Oyetola, in a circular with Ref No.SMD.61 VL.III/5 issued from the office of the State Head of Service and signed by the Permanent Secretary in the office, Mr S.A Aina, gave the approval to that effect .

The board, according to the circular, shall be responsible for the conduct of Basic Education Examination Certificate (BECE) in the state, screening test for selection of candidates into Model and High Schools and placement tests into JSS 1 & SS 1 of public schools in the state.

Other core mandates of the Board as approved by the Governor include placement tests for students seeking transfer from private schools and /or other states, Joint State Examinations for Elementary School pupils and Public Service Examinations including any other assessment or examination that may from time to time be approved for public schools in the state.

The circular also stated that, “the State Commissioner for Education will serve as the Chairman of the new board while a serving Education Officer also from the state Ministry of Education serve as the Registrar of the Board, a position that is equivalent to the post of General Manager/Executive Secretary in the state of Osun Public Service.”
