Ogun govt brainstorm on education reforms

Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has met with the board chairmen and management of the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), as well as State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), to map out strategies for development of the education sector.

The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Abayomi Arigbabu, during the maiden quarterly meeting with the agencies, at the Conference room of the Ministry, revealed that it was crucial, to assess the extent at which goals and standards have been achieved.

Arigbabu opined that it was imperative to chart a roadmap for effective implementation of the current administration’s policies and programmes in all education sub-sector.

He said stakeholders in the sector should see themselves as instrument for positive change, as well as catalyst for socio-economic emancipation and empowerment, urging them to be more proactive, resourceful, committed and enterprising in the manner in which they discharge their duties.

“Our educational system should meet the yearnings and aspirations aimed at producing academically sound, economically self-reliant, morally upright, as well as responsive citizens”, Arigbabu admonished.

He called for better cooperation and synergy among the agencies, that would foster great achievements for the benefit of all.

While giving their progress report, the Board Chairmen of SUBEB and TESCOM, Dr. Femi Majekodunmi and Mr. Olalekan Ifede highlighted some of their efforts, such as re-distribution of teachers, training of staff and placement of principals in schools.

They appreciated the passion of Governor Dapo Abiodun, towards restructuring education, with promises that they would not relent in giving their best to make education in the State a pride for all.

Contributing, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Technical Education, Prof. Joseph Odemuyiwa, in his submission said technical and vocational education should be given priority.

In her remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Primary and Secondary Education, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo said there was need to improve standard of education at all levels, noting that there should be intense monitoring of schools to ascertain their level of compliance to COVID-19 protocols.
