Ogun State government has said that it would not condone any activities that would make or mar the standard of education in the state but would continue to strive for excellence to improve teaching and learning activities.
The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Abayomi Arigbabu who stated this during a Quality Control Monitoring Exercise to schools in the state, said government is ready to transform the landscape of not only the public but also the private schools in the state.
Arigbabu explained that the essence of approval was to ensure that schools meet up with the standard of the environment where learners are taught.
“Education should not just be turned into business without the appropriate requirements, this government will not allowed any school operate without putting in place the basic minimum, hence, schools that are below standard, will not be allowed to operate until they have done the needful”, he said .
The Commissioner expressed his displeasure at some of the visited schools, he revealed that such schools would be sealed off until they have done the needful by putting in place the minimum requirements for setting up schools. .
Earlier while addressing officers scheduled for the exercise enjoined them to desist from act that would tarnish the image of the government, he encouraged them to be fair, firm and just in their assessment.
In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs Abosede Ogunleye said government would scrutinise approval given to schools, she stressed that those involved in the business of teaching and learning must do it right.
Also speaking, the Director of Education, Primary Department, Mr Olanrewaju Erinle, said the exercise was a way to attain and maintain required standard in private schools across the state.
