Plateau State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Gana Ayuba, has called on network providers in the country to include teachers in their corporate social responsibility programme to boost teachers’ morale.

Ayuba, in an exclusive interview in Jos with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said that such programmes should be organised to boost the morale of teachers and promote professionalism.

“What I am requesting the service providers to do for us is to introduce teacher friendly programmes or competition to support teachers because they are also benefiting from us.

“Apart from teachers, the students too, we have a very good number of them using various networks, but they have not been benefiting from them directly,’’ Ayuba said.

He, however, said that the programme could be like school debate for students, and the Best Teacher’s Award for teachers, so that we can benefit from their services.

“We play a role in building the education of this country, which is important to national development,’’ he said.

Ayuba advised the network providers to also organise child friendly programmes like quiz or debates to motivate the children, adding that such could be done either at the state or zonal levels.

The chairman explained that sometimes external bodies do organise school competitions to raise the morale of the children.

“If a child from the Jos Township School and a child from Barkin Ladi axis participate in school competitions, it creates good relationship among children.

“Such competitions usually make the children to sit up, just as their teachers are challenged to put in more effort,’’ he added.
