Nigeria’s education policies suitable for global needs – Don

A foremost educationist and curriculum scholar, Professor Udogie Ivowi has stated that Nigeria’s education policies was suitable to meet current global needs.

He however noted that the problem with the nation’s education system stems from poor implementation of its education policies that usually “well written and researched” by a collection of experts.

Ivowi, popularly known as UMO Ivowi, was a guest in the fourth episode of the Education Podcast aired on Tuesday.

EduCeleb.com understands that the country has had not less than five editions of its education policies in the past five decades.

The former Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council also added that the country has been lagging behind in meeting up with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a result of poor policy implementation.

He expressed doubts about the possibility of the federal government implementing the recently announced welfare packages for teachers and teacher-trainees.

Drawing from the education experience, the don who clocks 80 this December lamented the extreme involvement of civil servants who are not necessarily experts in the affairs of education management.

He sought increased funding on education towards improving the state of affairs of the country.
