No fewer than 20,000 primary school pupils in three Local Government Areas of Nasarawa state are to benefit from the electronic learning educational system promoted under the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

Mr Muhammed Dan’azimi, Chairman of the Board, disclosed this on Tuesday in Lafia, at the official launch of customised laptop computers for primary school teachers in the state.

The SUBEB chairman said the computers were donated by the Nasarawa State government, in collaboration with Cox Logistics Limited, an Abuja-based IT firm.

Dan’azimi, who was represented by the Permanent member II of the board, Musa Usman, commended Gov. Abdullahi Sule and the management of Cox Logistics Limited for their efforts in ensuring that teachers and primary school pupils in the state became computer literate.

“Today is a great day and I want to thank Gov. Abdullahi Sule and the management of Cox Logistics company for this laudable initiative.

“The e-learning system of education will be beneficial to primary school pupils because it makes them learn faster. I urge the teachers who will also be benefitting from this gesture, to make good use of the opportunity to improve on their skills,” he said.

Dan’azimi said the state government had approved the payment of 30 percent of the total cost of the 7,000 units of the laptops that would be distributed to teachers in Lafia, Akwanga and Keffi local government areas of the state.

“The laptop computers will be given to teachers who are willing to pay for the remaining 70 percent of the amount in two years and it will be deducted from their salaries,” he said.

Omar Sanda – Ejiofor, Chief Executive Officer of Cox Logistics Ltd, explained that the customized laptops, when put into use, would transform the educational landscape of the state, assuring that the teachers and pupils would be trained on how to use the gadgets.

“About 4,601 teachers have been enrolled for the training and they will be given their customised laptop computers when they finish their training, as plans are underway to extend the programme to other Local Government Areas in the state.

“The laptops have digital lesson notes, curricula, language translator, 70 thousand questions and answers, recommended textbooks by the Federal ministry of Education, among many other benefits,” he said. (NAN)
