Oyo State Governor-Elect, Seyi Makinde has promised that his government would be looking to providing solutions to challenges being faced at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso.

He made this promise during a congratulatory visit by the principal of officers of LAUTECH led by its Vice-Chancellor, Professor Michael Ologunde to Mr Makinde in Ibadan.

Announcing the visit via his twitter handle on Wednesday, the Governor-Elect wrote thus, “I was visited by the Vice Chancellor of LAUTECH, Prof. Michael Ologunde, other principal officers of the university and leaders of the Students’ Union. We will keep our promise to address the challenges faced by the institution.”

This was in apparent reference to various crises LAUTECH had faced over the past five years due to various reasons including inadequate funding and staff welfarism that had led to its closure for about a cummulative two years.

The university jointly owned by the Oyo State government and neighbouring Osun State is seen as an important economic hub for residents of Ogbomoso and its environs.

EduCeleb.com recalls that prior to the 9th March gubernatorial election in Oyo State, pundits even suggested that the challenges at LAUTECH could be part of factors that would determine the next governor of the state.

The University of Lagos alumnus also received members of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the tertiary institutions in Oyo State. He did not however disclose details of their meeting.

Expectations are high that with the emergence of Makinde would bring about lasting solution to the challenges facing LAUTECH and seven other tertiary institutions owned by the state government when he gets to power later in May.
