Makinde dissolves school governing boards in public schools

Oyo State Government-led by Governor Seyi Makinde has announced the dissolution of the six hundred and forty-three (643) Governing Boards in public secondary schools in state.

This was made known in a circular letter dated 11th May, 2021.

Replacements are yet to be appointed as at press time.

The letter which was issued by the office of Honourable Commissioner for Education, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Barrister Olasunkani Olaleye was addressed to Accountant General, Auditor General, Zonal Inspectors of Education, Local Inspectors of Education and Principals of Public Secondary Schools.

Recall that School Governing Boards (SGB) was introduced by administration of late Senator Abiola Ajimobi.

Barrister Olaleye appreciated School Governing Boards (SGB) for their contribution to the development of education sector in the state.

Principals all secondary schools in the state were directed to ensure that all schools’ materials in the Board’s custody were handed over to the school authority before their departure.

The letter reads, “In furtherance to the present administration’s determination to reposition the School Governing Boards in Oyo State, I have the directive of the Honourable Commissioner to announce the dissolution of the 643 School Governing Boards of Public Secondary Schools in the state.

“2. In view of the above, government is immensely appreciative of their contributions to the development of Education in the state.

“3. Principals are however enjoined to ensure that all School(s) materials in the Board’s custody are handed over to the school authority before their departure.”
