All tertiary institutions owned by the Lagos State government are to continue teaching students online.

This is following the approval given by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for special e-portals that will allow the higher institutions commence online lectures as part of measures to reduce the impact of Coronavirus on education.

Earlier, the Lagos State University (LASU) had announced that it was using an e-learning platform to engage students based on given lecture schedules sent to their email addresses.

LASU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olanrewaju Fagbohun had urged students to take advantage of the opportunity as whatever is taught through the medium would be graded in their semester results.

Lagos State runs five other schools aside LASU.

These include the Lagos State Polytechnic, the Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Ijanikin; the Michael Otedola College of Primary Education, Epe; the Lagos College of Health Technology, Yaba; and the Lagos State College of Nursing and Midwifery, Igando.

Another institution, the Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM), Ikeja is seen as part of LASU.

A statement by the Special Adviser to the Lagos State governor on Education, Tokunbo Wahab noted that, “Governor Sanwo-Olu approved the virtual classes to ensure physical distancing among students and their lecturers.”

It added that, “The move will also help in the maintenance of the State’s tertiary academic calendar despite the COVID-19 pandemic”.

“All students should maximise the unique opportunity to keep themselves engaged while the lockdown arising from the pandemic lasts.”

“Our special thanks must go to Mr Governor for this approval and for making Lagos the pacesetter among 21st century knowledge-driven societies.”

EduCeleb.com earlier reported that the Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo; the First Technical University, Ibadan; the Kaduna State University, Kaduna; the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, amongst others had begun online learning through their respective platforms.
