Lawyer replaces professor as Oyo Commissioner for Education

A minor cabinet reshuffling in Oyo State has seen a lawyer replacing a professor as Commissioner for Education in the state.

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Friday approved the cabinet reshuffle, which would have two commissioners interchanging their roles.

The Governor, in a statement made available to newsmen in Ibadan and signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Taiwo Adisa, confirmed the swapping of the portfolios of Commissioners for Education and Establishments.

The statement confirmed that the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Daud Sangodoyin has been moved from the Ministry to that of Establishment and Training, while his counterpart in the Ministry of Establishment and Training, Mr Olasunkanmi Aremu Olaleye, will replace Sangodoyin at the Ministry of Education.

The statement also indicated that the change takes immediate effect.

EduCeleb.com reports that Sangodoyin is a professor at the University of Ibadan. His specialities are in Water Resources and Environmental Engineering Pollution Control and Abatement Industrial, and Municipal Waste Management.

His leadership had been a driving force for numerous reforms in practices within the education sector under the Makinde administration.

Meanwhile, not much is known of Olaleye’s role the education sector previously. But he is a versed legal profession and politician.

Mr Olaleye has been principal partner at Kanmi Olaleye Chambers for almost three decades and had previously chaired the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission.

It is not immediately clear what might have informed the reshuffling.

But the statement from the government made reference to a letter dated 31st January, 2020, which was signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Olubamiwo Adeosun.

It noted that Adeosun communicated the decision of Governor Makinde to effect the minor cabinet reshuffle.
