LASU VC, Law School DG, 29 others promoted to SAN

The Lagos State University Vice Chancellor, Olanrewaju Fagbohun and the Director General of the Nigerian Law School, Isa Hayatu Chiroma are among the 31 newly promoted to the rank of the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

This is contained in a press release from the Legal Practitioners ’ Privileges Committee on Thursday.

Secretary of the LPPC and Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Hadizatu Mustapha, said the names of the successful candidates after the 133rd plenary of the committee on Thursday.

EduCeleb.com recalls that 106 lawyers had applied for the rank earlier in the year.

Of these applicants, 83 applied in the “advocate category” and 28 under the “academic category.”

Of these applicants, only two were female, and only one of whom was successful based on the released list made available to our correspondent. She is Professor Oluyemisi Bamgbose, a law professor at the University of Ibadan.

Among the successful candidates selected from these applicants were the Attorneys -General of Lagos and Ondo states, Mr Adeniji Kazeem and Mr Adekola Olawoye respectively.

They also include the National Coordinator of the Legal Defence and Assistance Project , Mr Chinonye Obi agwu, Mr Olalekan Ojo and Mr Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika.

Also on the list was Mr Olabode Olanipekun, son of a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Wole Olanipekun (SAN).

The rest include Mr Oba Abuchi , Essien Udom, Mr Metong Urombo, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, Mr George Igbokwe, Mr Olubowale Taiwo, Mr Oluwole Iyamu, Mr Adekola Olawoye, Mr Stephen Adehi, Mr Oluseun Akinbiyi, Mr Emmanuel Achukwu, Mr Keneth Ahia, Mr Louis Alozie, and Wole Agunbiade.

Others are Olayode Delano, Taminu Inuwa, Sonny Wogu , Professor Offorinze Amucheazi, Adewale Atake, Mr Kehinde Ehighelua, Professor Muhammed Akanbi, Mr Cosmas Enweluzo, and Mr Ishaka Mudi.

Ms Mustapha said the successful candidates would be sworn in at the ceremony marking the commencement of the 2018 /2019 legal year of the Supreme Court which is to hold on September 24.

“The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee at its 133 rd plenary session held today (Thursday), July 12, 2018, has elevated 31 legal practitioners to the inner bar.

“The rank of SAN is awarded as a mark of excellence to members of the legal profession who have distinguished themselves as advocates and academics.

“The swearing-in ceremony of the 31 legal practitioners will take place during the 2018 /2019 New Legal Year of the Supreme Court scheduled for September 24, 2018.”
