Students of the Lagos State University (LASU) have been challenged to emulate good models as over 5,500 of them got matriculated into the University.

The Vice-Chancellor of LASU, Professor Olanrewaju Fagbohun gave this charge on Thursday during the Matriculation Ceremony for students admitted for the 2018/2019 Academic Session.

“You can do very well if you put your mind to it,” the environmental law professor said.

Citing the example of two students of the university who were excelling academic studies and the university’s sports team, he added that the institution “propels her students to pursue their dreams, provided you abide by the values and principles of our institution.”

Fagbohun referred to Oladimeji Shotunde, a 400 level Business Administration student who is on 4.94 Cummulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) and Oreoluwa Adebiyi of the Department of Microbiology with 4.83 CGPA.

While Mr Shotunde is equally a fellow of the United Nations Academic Impact Millennium Fellowship, Mr Adebiyi was recently named a 2019 Youth Lead Ambassador by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) among other things.

He warned the new students against cultism and other nefarious activities.

“The onus now lies on you to ensure that you strive hard to further raise the bar. This can only be achieved when you dress responsibly, eschew violence, cultism, drug addiction, prostitution, examination malpractices and other vices that are inimical to your success as a students of our university.”

A speaker who addressed the students earlier, Dr Wusu Senapon shared with them some ideas on how they can get good grades while on campus.

In his words, “Achieving academic excellence is not an easy task. There are prices to be paid in order to be successful. Climbing the ladder of the peak of one’s career requires a lot of hard work, focus, attention, seriousness and diligence.”
