A postgraduate student at the Lagos State University, Samuel Jackson Iboro has been conferred with the United States Carrington Alumni Award in recognition of his drive to upskill teachers in Lagos State Government via his “TeachBeta” project.

Iboro, who graduated from the Department of Computer Science at the university and is currently running his master degree in Project Management at the same university, was selected among 20 Nigerian Youths as a US Carrington Fellow 2021.

He was placed in a group of five at the Education Team, where he led members to execute the “TeachBeta” project, an innovative project which equips teachers with innovative learning strategies and visual teaching aids.

The success of his one year project culminated in Iboro’s recognition as US Carrington Fellowship Alumni Award and US Carrington Best Project Award.

The Carrington Youth Fellowship Initiative, CYFI, is a dynamic youth-based initiative launched in 2011 by the U.S. Consulate General, Lagos. CYFI brings together Nigerian youth of exceptional vision, skills, and experience to design and implement projects that are having a positive impact on Nigerian society. The inspiration for CYFI was former Ambassador Walter Carrington; a champion of civil liberties, democracy, and closer ties between the U.S. and Nigeria. CYFI fellows are committed to putting the ideals of Walter Carrington into practice.
