The management of the Lagos State University (LASU) has announced some restrictions on academic field trips in the university as part of the requirements for student graduation.

This comes on the heels of what it said was the refusal of some heads of department to adhere to appropriate protocols in engaging in such.

It noted that funds would normally be provided for that on request by the departmental heads.

“However, in view of the prevailing security situation within the Country, the University Management has DIRECTED that all field trips should NOT EXCEED One (1) day (24hours) and at most Two (2) days (48hours),” a statement from the university added in part. “The field trip(s) should also NOT be outside the State (Lagos State).”

In addition, it said that no student should be requested to pay any money for field trip(s) any longer in the University and “no Department under ANY guise should embark on field trip(s) without securing necessary approval from designated Officials of the University.”

The statement added, “In view of the above and for emphasis, all pending/ongoing field trip(s) should be reviewed and secure the necessary approvals as appropriate in line with the above directive for the final approval of the Vice Chancellor”.

This is not the first time the university placed an embargo of such field trips.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji – Bello, had earlier on 30th November 2022 placed an embargo on all academic field trips for students outside Lagos State, due to prevailing security situation in the country.
