Lagos inaugurates school renovation committee

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Monday inaugurated the Special Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools in Lagos State chaired by Mr Hakeem Smith.‬

‪Mr Smith is the President, Nigerian Institute’s of Quantity Surveyors and accomplished project management consultant. ‬

Other members of the committee are Yetunde Holloway, Adebanjo Adedaramola, and Mr Babatunde Rajh-Label.

Functions of the Committee

The committee is expected to work around these terms of reference.

a) Undertake a detailed assessment of the structural, electrical and environmental rehabilitation required in public schools in Lagos State;

b) Enumerate and categorise all identified works as appropriate;

c) Enumerate and categorise all furniture required in identified schools as appropriate;

d) Facilitate the preparation of relevant bills of quantity and BEME;

e) Identify and categorise qualified contractors in conjunction with Lagos State Public Procurement Agency, as appropriate;

f) Award contracts for physical, structural, electrical and environmental rehabilitation of public schools in Lagos State as approved by His Excellency the Governor through the Honourable Commissioner for Education;

g) Award contracts for the supply of different categories of furniture as appropriate for public schools in Lagos State, as approved by His Excellency the Governor through the Honourable Commissioner for Education;

h) Facilitate in conjunction with the Ministry of Economic Planning & Budget the development of monitoring and periodic inspection mechanism to ensure quality control and conformance with BoQ and BEME;

i) Provide quarterly report on activities and achievements of the Committee for the attention of His Excellency the Governor through the Honourable Commissioner for Education;

j) Carry out any other directive that may be assigned by His Excellency, Governor of Lagos State.
