The two teachers of Nazareth Junior/Senior College, Ibowon, Epe who were alleged to have defiled some students of the school have been handed over to the Police by the Lagos State Government.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr Adesina Odeyemi, who disclosed this in his office, said that the arrest was effected following the confession by the teachers to sexual abuse at a Personnel Management Board (PMB) meeting set up by the Ministry on the issue.

Odeyemi said that the recommendations of the PMB will be implemented to the letter by the State Government as a way of demonstrating its zero tolerance for child abuse in the State.

The Permanent Secretary explained further that the students, who were the complainants, had already offered statements at the Lagos State Police Command, while necessary steps towards prosecution will be taken as soon the Police conclude their investigation.

He said further that in line with established procedures, the State Government has taken the affected students to the hospital for comprehensive medical examination to aid in the Police investigation.

The Permanent Secretary pledged that the State Government would ensure that any student found to have been abused and traumatised by the event would undergo necessary counselling and rehabilitation at appropriate government agencies.
