Governor Nasir El-Rufai revealed that the gunmen who kidnapped six female students and two staff members from their hostels at the Engravers College in Kaduna state on 3rd October have made a ransom demand.

Briefing newsmen on efforts being made to rescue the abducted students, the governor who spoke to journalists in Abuja, said the suspects have made contacts with parents of the abducted students demanding ransom for the release of their wards.

“They have made a demand for money and that is being negotiated,” the governor said.

A mother of one of the kidnapped pupils says her daughter called her earlier today with a strange number, weeping and pleading for her to do all within her power to rescue her.

“My daughter called me early Friday morning on a phone number I didn’t know. She was crying and sounded frightened.” the distraught mother told AFP in an interview.

The state police command earlier said it was working to ensure the safe return of the pupils.
