The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) has postponed the 2018 Mock Unified Tertiary Matriculations Examination (UTME), which was earlier scheduled to hold between January 22 and 24.
It said the postponement was necessary because some of the accredited Computer Based Test (CBT) centres located within campuses cannot be used due to the ongoing strike action by nonacademic staff of Nigerian universities.
While speaking at a meeting with stakeholders on Tuesday, the Registrar of JAMB, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, announced the dates for the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The theme of the meeting is “Strategic planning on the conduct of the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.”
JAMB declared that the Mock UTME has now been moved to the first week in February.
However, the date for the main examination which was earlier scheduled to commence on March 9th, 2018 and end on March 17th, 2018 remains the same.
In the words of Oloyede, “We are unable to access our CBT centres because most of them are in the universities and non-teaching staffs are on strike. But this hasn’t stopped sales.
He also disclosed that only 283,319 out of the expected 2 million candidates have so far registered for the 2018 UTME.
“Regarding the sale of forms, about 10 per cent of the expected candidates have registered, the number of candidates that have registered now is about 283,319.”
Oloyede said the prohibition of certain items still stand and is applicable to candidates, supervisors, and examiners.
“No candidates, examiners, invigilators will be allowed to enter the examination hall with wrist watches, pencils except HB pencils …and cameras,” he added.
