You may have registered for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) conducted Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) or Direct Entry (DE) with a phone number last year but you have since misplaced that SIM card.

This is especially when you still have to register for the UTME this year. In order to avoid having double registration of your data, you can still use the same profile created the previous year during the subsequent registration process.

Here are possible questions popping out of your mind now: Would I be able to register a new profile when I misplaced my phone number? Can I correct my phone number on the JAMB profile?

In this article, EduCeleb.com guides you around what to do in this situation where the phone number or SIM card used to register in the previous UTME is missing and what you could do about that.

What to do if you lost the phone number used for UTME registration last year

First of all, note that your profile created in the previous year while registering for the UTME would always be in JAMB’s records. So, it is safer to avoid creating a new profile so as not to be accused of multiple registration.

That phone number used in your last registration would therefore be uniquely yours irrespective of the number of registrations you may have to do.

JAMB already recognises the possibility of the SIM card getting misplaced, damaged or irretrievable due to various circumstances and has a way around remedying that.

You are expected to follow these steps to resolve the matter.

Visit JAMB Office

There are several JAMB offices across Nigeria. You don’t have to go to Abuja to get the problem resolved. Click this link to see the list and visit the one nearest to you.

Present an affidavit

JAMB requires each candidate with such an issue to present a sworn affidavit attesting to the missing SIM. That affidavit should clearly state that the phone number belonged to him/her and was used to apply for the last UTME/DE.

Biometrics verification

JAMB would thereafter verify the authenticity of the candidate using its biometrics.

Provide new phone number

You should naturally have a new phone number intended to replace the lost one. Upon attesting that the biometrics belongs to you, that new phone number can be supplied. This phone number must be entered twice.

Upload affidavit

You would be required to upload the affidavit before the phone number can be updated in connection to you as the candidate making such a request. So, scan and store the scanned copy of the document in preparation for this.

Resend Command

You as a candidate should thereafter use a RESEND Command from the new phone number to retrieve your code and process with registration.

With the above steps, you can now proceed to registering for the exam. We wish you all the best in this year’s UTME and admissions processes.
