Ibadan Poly governing council approves staff promotion

The Governing Council of The Polytechnic, Ibadan has approved promotion of outstanding staff members in all cadres.

This development was part of the decision reached at the inaugural meeting of the council held at the conference hall of the institution.

In a chat with journalist after the meeting, the chairman, Professor Kunle Akinyemi who said the council was poised to take Ibadan poly to a greater height.

In his words, “We already approved the promotion of members of staff and we have made some landmark decisions.

“We have also taken the decision on celebration of the 50th anniversary of the institution, Maybe it’s going to be 50 plus one celebration, we will let you know,” he said.

The chairman said that the council comprised academicians, politicians, professionals, administrators and people who would make the state proud through robust contributions and achievements of goals set to reposition the institution.

He, however, solicited media cooperation to enable the institution reach the heights it has not witnessed before.

“But there are few other things we will like to do in terms of infrastructural improvements, academic enhancement, students-teachers relationships and peace on the campus.

“We are working towards the canker-worm of cultism and by the grace of God when the result comes, we will all smile,” he said.

Akinyemi stressed that if cultism was not curbed, the council would not have done enough, saying, ”we want to promote character and excellence in learning”.

“We want them to learn and be of good behaviour. We have lots of alumni we are proud of and they are ready to co-operate in propelling the polytechnic to the next level of excellence.

“We want to move to a positive direction and ensure that we achieve our goals in many dimensions, innovations and creativity.

“In no time, the institution will put together a package, structure that will demonstrate and prove that we are citadel of innovations and creativity”.

Akinyemi, however, noted that if there was need to review school fees as a result of COVID-19 pandemic, the council would not increase beyond what was necessary.

“Our duty is to ensure that the environment is conducive in terms of infrastructure, ability to pay school fees as well as facilities available for students to be able to strive and succeed,” he said.

OYSCATECH chairman commends Makinde

Professor Lateef Sanni, the Chairman, Governing Council of Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology (OYSCATECH), Igboora, has commended Governor Seyi Makinde for providing an enabling environment for tertiary institutions in the state to thrive.

Sanni also commended the governor for prompt payment of salaries as well as arrears on a monthly basis.

He made this known at the council’s inaugural meeting held at the institution in Igboora on Thursday.

Gov. Seyi Makinde had recently constituted the governing council of the state-owned tertiary institutions with Sanni returned as the council chairman of OYSCATECH alongside other members.

Sanni, however, thanked Makinde for giving him and other members of the council the opportunity to serve.

He pledged the council’s commitment to the development of the institution and appealed to the council members to partner with him in developing the institution.

He expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology as well as the Ministry of Finance for their regular support to tertiary institutions in the state.

“I wish to also express appreciation to the traditional rulers, OYSCATECH management and Joint Action Congress (JAC) comprising of all the labour unions in the state-owned tertiary institutions.

“They all ensured my return as governing council Chairman of OYSCATECH,” he said.

Sanni gave an assurance that the council would not betray the confidence reposed in them in the discharge of their responsibilities.

Mrs Bolatumi Oloko, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, commended Sanni for his leadership acumen exhibited at the inaugural meeting.

She prayed that God would continue to endow Sanni with more wisdom to administer the governing council.

Earlier, Mr Olaniyi Adekunle, the OYSCATECH Acting Rector, had congratulated the council chairman and members on their appointment and wished them a successful tenure.

“I am particularly delighted that the college migrated successfully from Monotechnic to Polytechnic in 2019 and got enlisted with Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund),” he said.

Adekunle said the state government had recommended OYSCATECH for the 2020 Special Intervention Fund for improved teaching, research, and expansion of facilities in the college.
