Two undergraduate students at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, have won the 2018 Imagine Cup National Finals and would be representing Nigeria further.

Their names are Alayande Abiola and Taofeek Afeez. The duo are engineering students studying Physics Electronics and Electrical Electronics respectively in the university.

The Imagine Cup has been the world’s premier student technology competition organised by Microsoft over the past 16 years.

This global contest honours the most original student applications, and the winning team will take home up to $100,000 (US).

EduCeleb.com reports that Microsoft has provided a global platform for students to turn their dreams into reality.

Students from across the globe build amazing teams to bring their biggest, boldest ideas to life. Working with mentors and industry leaders, they get feedback to further hone and develop their projects.

The two students, who formed TEAM TREP, presented a device called Real Drip. This device helps to reduce the risk of blood clot or deep vein thrombosis.

Without penetrating the body, it monitors the flow rate of fluid during intravenous treatment and notifies medical staff in real time.

It also ensures timely removal of intravenous needle to prevent back flow of blood which may lead to pulmonary embolism if necessary action is not taken in time.
