FUTA student wins international forestry award

Olaoluwa Israel Adetula , a postgraduate student of Forestry and Wood Technology at the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) is one of the recipients of the 2021 Society of American Foresters Awards.

The 2021 recipients of the SAF Gregory Award include 10 students and early-career professionals from around the world. This year’s recipients were selected from 115 applicants from 22 countries.

The Gregory Award seeks to mark the achievements of Bob and Ann Gregory and further their interest in international relations by bringing outstanding students and early-career professionals from outside the US and Canada to the annual SAF National Convention.

Two Nigerians got the Awards with Olaoluwa winning the Student category of the Award which is Top 5 in the category.

Olaoluwa was a former International Forestry Students’ Association FUTA-LC president, he’s currently one of the host for the Nigerian Forestry Round Table Talk that host prominent people on forestry discussion monthly, he’s also the CEO and Co-founder EdenWorld Initiative, an NGO he co-founded in his final year as an undergraduate student in FUTA.

Olaoluwa is also known for his advocacy program on forestry and environment related issues.

Adetula got the award for demonstrating performance, desire and promise to contribute to Nigeria’s forestry education and potential for future leadership in forestry.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Joseph Fuwape, has congratulated Adetula describing him as a worthy ambassador of the University.
