Fountain University warns students against drug abuse

The management of Fountain University has warned students against the negative impacts of drug abuse.

Vice Chancellor of the institution, Amidu Sanni also urged students to adhere strictly to the rules and regulations of the institution.

He made this known in his welcome address to newly admitted students at the Orientation Programme held at the University’s auditorium in Osogbo.

Fountain University is owned by Nasrul- Lahi-Il-Fatih Society (NASFAT), a leading Islamic organisation in Nigeria and commenced operations in 2008.

Professor Sanni, who was the Chief host of the event, expressed his happiness for the students who were successfully admitted into Fountain University. He also made a dedication to the parents and to the school proprietors, NASFAT for their financial and moral supports in contributing to the development of the school.

EduCeleb.com reports that the even was organised in an effort to further familiarise the students with the laws guiding the institution and to properly incorporate them into the system. This would also ensure their smooth transition into the educational system.

The orientation programme also covered an interactive lecture bordering on Drug Abuse among Youths, the inauguration of the Students’ Representative Committee and the presentation of medals to athletes who represented the university at the just concluded Nigerian Private Universities Games Association (NPUGA) games.

Sanni advised the students to be dedicated to their studies and not to condone any bad behaviour; adding that the students’ mission is to acquire knowledge and high moral standard.

“Students are the greatest stakeholders here in this university and the new management is interested in making your stay here comfortable and pleasant.

“Your security and personal welfare is of utmost importance to us, so feel free to make your concerns known,’’ he stated.

In a related development, Registrar of the institution, Mrs Wosilat Sallee while giving a goodwill message enjoined the students not to violate any of the school rules and regulations, adding that strict penalty awaits those caught flouting school laws.

The Head of Department, Drug Demand Reduction Unit at the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Osogbo branch, Dr Oyetunde Afolashade Ofoha in her presentation tasked the youths not to engage in drug abuse.

She lamented the abuse of drugs by youths and charged the younger generation to shun drug abuse just as she advised the university management on the establishment of drug-free clubs in Fountain University.

Also speaking at the event was the Sub-Dean, Students’ Affairs, University of Ilorin, Dr. M.A. Akanmu who urged the students not to forget their purpose of coming to the school.

As part of the Orientation programme, the new Students’ Representative Committee of the university was also inaugurated.

According to the Vice-Chancellor while inaugurating them, the SRC members are students who have been scrutinised and have been found worthy in character, knowledge and dedication to service.

Also, prizes and medals were presented to athletes who represented the university at the just concluded NPUGA.

The students made the university proud by excelling in the various sporting activities and the Vice Chancellor promised to reward them more appropriately in another ceremony.

In attendance at the programme was the management team including the Bursar, Mrs. Silifat Balogun, the Librarian, Dr. Salman AbdSalam, Director of Works, Engineer AbdSemiu Odenike amongst other staff of the institution.

Others are the Chairman, Fountain University Parents’ Forum, Professor K. Yusuf, Dean of Students’ Affairs, University of Ilorin, Professor L.T. Ajibade; President, Students’ Union Government, Mr. Adebisi Ridwan and executives of NASFAT, Osun branch.
