Firm donates N2.9m water project to UI

An engineering firm, Debson Engineering Company Limited has donated a water project worth Two Million, Nine Hundred and Thirty-eight Thousand Naira (N2,938,000) to the University of Ibadan (UI).

This includes two boreholes and one elevated tank sited to serve members of the university community.

The project was commissioned on Thursday, 18th April by the UI Vice-Chancellor, Idowu Olayinka in Ibadan.

In his brief remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayinka appreciated the effort of the Managing Director of the company, Engineer Adebowale Abass for the initiative to provide the University of Ibadan community with such an essential need – borehole water.

He urged the donor and other would-be donors not to relent in their efforts to assist the university to further improve on its developmental activities.

The VC also called on other well-meaning individuals to emulate the kind gesture of the benefactor.

EduCeleb.com gathered that the donor organisation had been working with the Intra Campus Transport Committee (ICTC) of the University for some time.

The project was facilitated by the the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Kayode Adebowale who Olayinka also praised at the occasion.

Earlier in his speech, the Donor, Abass thanked God and the University Management for the privilege granted him to contribute his own quota to the progress and development of the University through the provision of potable water to the teeming populace of the University community. According to him, the motorised borehole sunk at the University Gate has storage tanks of 6,000 litres capacity.

He appreciated the Vice-Chancellor and members of the management team as well as the Deputy Managing Director of Debson Engineering Company Limited and his wife, Mrs Adebukola Abass for the deep interest she took in the project.

He also commended all the technical crew for their dedication, good conduct and timely delivery of the project.

The Chairman of the ICTC, Professor Olufemi Adegbesan, aside thanking the donors also appreciated the effort of the commercial operators for providing a habitable atmosphere within the campus.

Others in the company of Abass were his wife, Mrs Abass and his daughter, Miss Damisi Timileyin Abass.

Present at the occasion were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnerships), Professor Olanike Adeyemo; University Librarian, Dr Helen Komolafe-Opadeji; Member, Governing Council, Professor Ademola Aremu and the Director of Special Duties, Office of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Miracle Oyewola.

Others were Professor Deji Omole, Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU); Engineer Olufemi Adetolu, Director of Works, Works and Maintenance; Engineer Akintunde Bello, Deputy Director, Works and Maintenance Department; Professor Joseph Babalola, Head, Department of Kinetics and Health Education; Mr Victor Fadeyibi, Chief Security Officer; Members of ICTC: Dr Julius Apotiade and Mr Olugbenga Olomiloro; Mr Adebowale Adeosun, Director, University Advancement Centre and Mr Olatunji Oladejo, Director, Directorate of Public Communication.
