The Nigerian Federal Government has declared Friday, 15th June and Monday, 18th June as public holidays to celebrate the Eid-el-Fitr.

A statement from the Interior ministry quoted the Minister, Abdulrahman Dambazau making the declaration on behalf of the Government.

The statement was signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Dr M. Umar in Abuja on Monday.

He congratulated the Muslim faithful on a successful completion of the Ramadan and enjoined all Nigerians to use the occasion of the celebration to pray for the peace, unity, prosperity and stability of the nation.

EduCeleb.com reports that the month of Ramadan in which Muslims fast for either 29 or 30 days is expected to end on either Friday or Saturday. That is depending on the sighting of the crescent for the succeeding month of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic calendar.

It is believed that those who fasted during the month of Ramadan had been purified from sins. Eid-el-Fitri is therefore a symbolic celebration of this.
