COVID-19: Lagos adds more educational radio programmes

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos State governor

The Lagos State government has partnered with more radio stations in the state to produce educational contents for students in view of the closure of schools due to Coronavirus Pandemic (COVID-19).

These set of programmes are dedicated to students in the Junior Secondary School level.

The programmes are based on the government’s initiative through the Ministry of Education in partnership with Naija 102.7 FM and South Saharan Social Development Organisation.

The Head, Public Affairs Unit in the Lagos State
Ministry of Education, Kayode Abayomi disclosed this in a statement sent to EduCeleb.com on Friday.

He quoted the Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo who said that the radio lessons will cover 4 subjects; English Studies, Mathematics, Basic Science and Civic Education.

Mrs Adefisayo added that the teachings are to commence from Monday, 6th April, 2020, running from 12 noon to 1pm daily.

Speaking further, Adefisayo added that the aim of the radio teaching programme is to keep the students engaged while at home during the lockdown period.

She therefore urged Parents and Guardians to inform and ensure that their children/wards tune in to Naija FM 102.7 and make the best use of the quality teachings and educative programme.

EduCeleb.com had reported last week that the government also launched educational radio and television programmes for students in primary and senior secondary schools to provide an alternative learning medium during the statewide school closure to reduce the spread of the virus.

Such programmes have been running on WAZOBIA FM, WAZOBIA Max TV, Eko FM, and Radio Lagos since Monday, 30th March, 2020.

We had also reported similar initiatives in neighbouring Ogun, Ondo and Oyo states.
