China partners YABATECH on vocational education

Chinese government institutions are looking to the Yaba College of Technology for partnership on vocational education.

The college, popularly known as YABATECH is a leading provider of technical education in Nigeria beyond being the first to offer such in the country.

Officials of Chinese Polytechnic, Guangzhou Panyu and a Chinese construction company based in Nigeria, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, (CCEC) were recently on the institution’s campus to have talks of developing more manpower through the school.

They offered to provide technical assistance to the College graduates especially in the areas of rail and road transportation on the note that it has the required manpower capacity.

“China and Nigeria have a long standing socio-economic relationship and it is expected that CCEC will take advantage of this relationship by keying into Nigeria’s transportation development via rail transportation,” said the Guangzhou Panyu Polytechnic Vice President, Liu Jiahuan.

Mr Jiahuan who defined the proposed technical assistance as a corporate social responsibility to Nigerians, noted that Nigeria’s achievements in the area of technical education were made known through the Nigerian Railway Corporation.

“Through the Railway Corporation, we know that YABATECH, the cradle of higher learning is one of the best institutions in Nigeria and as a first class polytechnic, we are desirable to cooperate with her in the field of technical and vocational training.”

The two institutions will cooperate and share academic ideas in mechanical, civil, architecture and construction engineering technology respectively.

The Rector, Engr. Obafemi Omokungbe, who was unavoidably absent was represented by the Deputy Rector Academics, Dr Taye Oyelola.

Also attendance were other members of the management team of Yaba College of Technology, representatives of Guangzhou Panyu Polytechnic led by its Vice President and a representative of the Nigerian Railway Corporation in the person of the Lagos District Manager, Engr. Jerey Oche.
