Bamidele elected new NANS president

Danielson Bamidele has been elected the new president of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS.

His emergence was announced the midnight on Tuesday, following the conclusion of elections at the Old Parade Ground, Abuja.

The Nasarawa State University, Keffi student polled 104 out of the sum of 272 votes cast.

EduCeleb.com reports that Mr Bamidele will be the 32nd President of the NANS.

He and other members of his executive cabinet would be leading the affairs of the apex students’ body for the next one year upon assumption of office later in the year.

Controversies

While the election lasted, there were controversies surrounding some votes counted.

Particularly, while the Convention Chairman was being elected, three more votes were added to the total votes count.

A sum of 272 delegates were accredited but the result was summed up to be 275.

MD Muktar who later emerged had 82 votes while the first runner-up, Adeyeye Olugbenga had 77 votes. He was followed by three other people whose votes added up to 116.

With that, Muktar was declared winner by the presiding officer, Abdulmajeed Oyeniyi.

Muktar later conducted the elections as some delegates called senators protested the votes count. His conduct saw to the emergence of the new executive cabinet of the National students’ body.

EduCeleb.com also reported that a faction not comfortable with the outcome of the election emerged. It is led by Gideon Obande who attends the same school as the president-elect. He had 7 votes at the end of the election.

In his acceptance speech titled “It is a new dawn” made available to EduCeleb.com, the president-elect thanked everyone who contributed to the success of the elections and promised to work together with all.

It is a new dawn!

“It’s a new dawn indeed, as I want to use this medium to acknowledge and appreciate the outgoing executives, for their effort during their administration.

“I want to thank every persons for their spirit of comradeship. I also want to thank the entire Convention Committee led by the able Convention Chairman in the Person of Comr MD Mukhtar for conducting a peaceful, free and fair election which brought us to power.

“I also want to thank the Amiable leadership of all the Zonal Cordinators, JCC Chairmen, Senators and Stakeholders who stood for what is right and made sure that the the mandate of the Nigerian Students is not eluded, We are entirely grateful.

“I want also appreciate the press who took out time to come over and show solidarity to all Nigerian Students. I also would like to thank all Nigerian Students who left their campuses and stood under the rain and sun for days all in making sure the mandate of the Nigerian Students is protected, I am mostly grateful.

I want to also thank all the Security men and women ranging from the Nigeria Police Force, the Directorate of State Security who made sure that the the security of the Nigerian Students remained paramount during the convention, we can never be more grateful

I also want to reiterate that my administration would remain resolute in making sure the mandate bestowed on me is utilized for the good, I also would like to state here that there is no Victor and no Vanquished.

This is a Victory for all, and I call on all for us to work together in Harmony

To those who did not, I also would love to say Thank you because you all believed in the whatever you stood for, and as such I Promise to be a President to all.
