Alumni organise orientation for State High School students

The 1996 set of the State High School, Oyewole old students have organised an orientation programme for senior school students in the school. 

The event was held on Wednesday, 5th December, 2018 at the school’s premises.

According to the Executive Director of Students Without Borders, Daniel Nwodi, it sought to motivate students. 

Mr Nwodi who was also the guest lecturer for the day warned the students against engaging in social vices as these could jeopardise their future ambition.

“Our mission here is to motivate the students. I was in this school 22 years ago and I passed through the same sought of lesson that do. Today, I can say that I’m a better person though there are rooms for improvement.”

“We are here to motivate them. No matter what people call them, they can be whoever they want to be. They can be outstanding in anything that they do and come out excellently in anything that they do.”

Prior to the orientation programme, which also included anti-corruption advocacy, the 1996 old students of the school had donated about 200 classroom furniture. 

Mr Daniel, who also belongs to the set told EduCeleb.com that his colleagues came together in 2016 to do all these.

“We came together two years ago on the basis that it’s needful for us to do so. We wanted to network with each other and see what we can do for the school,” he added.

He also disclosed that on 22nd December, the set of old students would be organising its biannual dinner to network and see to other ways of helping the school community.

Meanwhile, the Vice Principal (Administration) of the school, Mrs Victoria Daropale commended the organisers for coming up with the initiative.

In her words, “The programme was well organised. I like the way the old students of the 1996 set came here to encourage the students. With all they’ve given to them, I really appreciate what they have done.”

“This is an encouragement, especially for our students to put in more efforts in their studies and shun hooliganism, and other social vices. They were encouraged to face their education because their future is bright.”

The well attended event was graced by staff and students of the school, and a section of the 1996 Old Students’ Association.
