Prominent indigenes of Lagos State, under the aegis of Ọmọ Eko Pataki, have again charged the state governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to demonstrate courage and fairness by appointing the most qualified indigene as vice-chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), just as they expressed disgust at the delay which the exercise had witnessed over time.

The group reiterated its call on Thursday in a statement issued and signed by its Trustee, Major- General Tajudeen Olanrewaju (rtd.), a copy of which was made available to journalists, saying should Governor Sanwo-Olu heed the call, “history will applaud him for making the right choice.”

This was just as the group of indigenous Lagosians cautioned the governor to avoid a situation where this needless delay might lead to a destructive factionalization of the institution itself.

“We at Ọmọ Pataki are once again advising the Governor to demonstrate courage and maturity by doing what is proper and fair. He should appoint the most qualified indigene as LASU Vice-Chancellor. This is the normative pattern.

“Sanwo-Olu should avoid a situation where this needless procrastination may lead to a destructive factionalization of the institution itself. History will applaud him for making the right choice,” the group said.

Olanrewaju, who is also former Minister of Communications, while decrying the delay in appointing the new vice-chancellor for the university, which in the past was not the case as there were laid- down rules guiding the process, further decried the intervention of the State House of Assembly in what he described as “messy drama.”

He, however, affirmed that the indigenous Lagosians remained undaunted, steadfast and firm on the issue of the appointment of a substantive vice-chancellor for LASU, positing that it was not leadership if anybody anywhere was working towards a compromised result.

“It is as if someone is working towards a compromised result. This is not leadership,” he said.
