Adamu, Nwajiuba to head Nigeria’s education ministry

Immediate past Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu has retained his position in that office. He is to be assisted by Emeka Nwajiuba, who is the Minister of State for Education.

The duo are among the 43 ministers sworn in and assigned portfolios by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, 21st August, 2019 as members of the Federal Executive Council.

Mr Adamu hails from Katagum in Bauchi State, North East Nigeria. He is an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and Columbia University. Prior to his earlier ministerial appointment, he had practiced accounting and journalism.

Adamu is fluent in English, Arabic, Persian, Fulfulde, Hausa, and French.

Mr Nwajiuba is a native of Ehime-Mbano in Imo State, Southeast Nigeria. The lawyer is an alumnus of the University of Lagos and is still on his PhD at the University of Jos.

He was nominated for the ministerial post shortly after winning a seat in the House of Representatives. He is the current Chairman of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), an agency of the Federal Ministry of Education.

The ministers, who were screened and confirmed by the Senate in July, were sworn-in at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
