Abubakar renames College of Education Kangere

Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar of Bauchi State has approved the renaming of the College of Education Kangere to Adamu Tafawa Balewa College of Ed‎ucation, Kangere.

This development is contained in a press statement signed by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the College, Bala Baban Kawu.

The statement quoted Hajiya Hadiza Usman, the Acting Registrar of the College as stating that the approval by Governor Abubakar followed a resolution by the Bauchi State House Of Assembly and‎ subsequent endorsement by the state executive council.

Dr Usman called on all ministries, agencies and parastatals and commissions to take note of the change.

She also  commended Governor Abubakar for his support in the development of the College.

EduCeleb.com reports that the college started in 1984 as the Adult Education Institute before it got upgraded to Bauchi State Institute of Education. It was in 2015 that it became the College Of Education.

Born 1929 in Darazo, Alhaji Adamu Tafawa Balewa attended the Institute of Administration, Zaria between 1957 and 1960.

As a politician, belonged to the National Party of Nigeria (NPN) in the Second Republic under which he was the Deputy Governor of the Bauchi State between 1979 and 1983.

As a notable member of the Bauchi Emirate, he was the Ajiyan Bauchi from 1956 till his death.

This prominent politician and administrator in Bauchi State was  described by common people as an egalitarian.

Popularly known among his people as “Kan-Wuka,” he was a peacemaker and fatherly figure who resolved issues among his peers. He died on 10th November, 2004.
