The Oyo State Government said it had received over 3000 transfer application from private schools to public schools due to its implementation of policies on education.

Governor Oluseyi Makinde stated this while commissioning the Multipurpose Hall at Baptist Secondary School, Ilora on Wednesday, 23rd October.

Mr Makinde reiterated that his administration was committed to free qualitative education in public schools across the State.

He called for more concerted efforts to support the government.

In his words, “if standards of education will improve tremendously, it is a collective responsibility of all and sundry.”

The project he commissioned was donated by an old student of the school, Mr Remi Oyekola.

Makinde commended the donor, for giving back to his alma mater by contributing his quota to the development of education sector.

EduCeleb.com recalls that since the Makinde administration came into power in May, he had made several attempts to improve access to basic education by implementing provisions of the Compulsory, Free Universal Basic Education Act.

Noteworthy are the abolition of examination levies and PTA levies and the proposed introduction of boarding facilities in schools.

But the recent introduction of a fees up to N20, 000 for transfer into the public schools has been seen as a violation of the law provisions even as the government claimed it was meant to “standardise things”.
