Authorities at the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) have said that only about 3000 of the over 12,000 candidates who took part in the post-UTME Screening Exercise would gain admissions eventually.

This is due to the limited carrying capacity of the institution.

The candidates who wrote the exams between 30th July and 2nd August, 2019 were seeking to gain admission into various degree programmes of the FUTA for the 2019/2020 academic session.

The Chairman, Admissions Committee and Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Rufus Ogunsemi who personally went round to monitor the exercise described it as “very successful , hitch free and peaceful.”

Ogunsemi, a professor, described the candidates as well behaved and mature. He said they all cooperated with the officials of the University who conducted the screening exercise.

In his words, “This year Post UTME exercise no doubt was unique. This is because apart from the peaceful and hitch free conduct, it ended far ahead of the expected time each day.

“With competent hands we were able to improve on our operations over the previous years. This helped us a lot in the exercise. In fact, we closed each day earlier than scheduled and the candidates were satisfied.”

The don said FUTA is noted for credibility and integrity and this was demonstrated in the conduct of the screening.

He also assured all candidates that the Institution will not compromise its known merit benchmark, transparency and credibility in the admission exercise.

The Chairman, Computer Based Test (CBT) Committee, Dr Gabriel Iwasokun corroborated Professor Ogunsemi saying his team enjoyed the cooperation of the candidates who behaved well and conducted themselves maturely.

He said the system put in place was also fantastic.

He said following already established tradition of merit and transparency, the best candidates will eventually emerge as the University will never compromise the integrity of its admission process.

A cross section of candidates and parents expressed their delight in the conduct of the exercise and commented FUTA for been organized.

One of them identified simply as as Bade said, “FUTA is a great Institution in Nigeria and I am very happy with the conduct of the screening. We were well briefed and the officials were friendly with us. The screening is well organized and that confirms the integrity the University is noted for.”

Beware of fraudsters

In a related development, the university management has warned candidates to be wary of fraudsters posing to provide help in the admissions process.

In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Adegbenro Adebanjo, the FUTA management said it aware that some individuals were claiming to have the ability to manipulate the results of the Post UTME Screening Exercise for interested candidates by text messages.

“This is nothing but patent scam by fraudsters,” he said adding that “The Fraudsters are also asking candidates through social media platforms and other Channels to call some phone numbers to facilitate the upgrading of their scores.”

“The general public is hereby notified that the spurious claims and misleading information is the handiwork of scammers who want to fraudulently extort money from unsuspecting Candidates and their parents and guardians.”

“For the avoidance of doubt no individual ,either internally or externally, can manipulate, in anyway or form, the results of the screening exercise and the admission process.”

“The admission process in FUTA is merit driven and insulated from manipulation and other malpractices.”

“Members of the general public particularly candidates seeking admission into FUTA should be wary of the activities of Fraudsters as FUTA will not be responsible for the loss incurred by those who choose to deal with the Fraudsters and their cronies.”
